Cryptanalysis
The discipline of dechipering a ciphertext without having access to the keytext, usually by recovering more or less directly the plaintext or even the keytext used, in cases favorable for the attackerby reconstructing the whole cryptosystem used.

Cryptographic Protocol
A distributed algorithm describing precisely the interactions of two or more entities to achieves certain security objectives. The entities interact with each eather by exchanging messages over private and/or public communication channels.

Cryptography
The discipline of writing a message in ciphertext, usually by a translation from plaintext according to some (frequently changing) keytext, with the aim of protecting a secret from adversaries, interceptors, intruders, interlepors, eavesdroppers, opponents or simply attackers, opponents, enemies.

Cryptology
The discipline of cryptography and cryptanalysis and of their interaction. Its aim is secrecy or confidentiality: the practice of keeping secrets, maintaining privacy, or concealing valuables. A further goal of cryptology is integrity and authenticaty, usually given by a message authentication code or digital signature unique to the sender and serving for his identification.

Cryptosystem
A system consisting of an encryption algorithm, a decryption algorithm, and well-defined triple of text space: plaintexts, ciphertexts, and keytexts.

Hash Functions
Introduction: Cryptographic hash functions take input strings of arbitrary (or very large) length and map these to short fixed length output strings. The term hash functions originates from computer science, where it denotes a functions that compresses a string of arbitrary length to a string of fixed length.

Public Key Cryptography
A method to encrypt messages using nonsecret key. The term public key cryptography also includes various others cryptographic methods using a nonsecret key, such as authentication, digital signature schemes, and key agreement.
